What is Corporate Affiliations?

Corporate Affiliations is a dynamic and comprehensive tool to gain insight on thousands of top companies and connect to their decision-makers.This business intelligence source provides insight on nearly 200,000 parent and subsidiary businesses worldwide. For more than 30 years, our customers have leveraged our corporate hierarchy data to make smarter business decisions. The content is created and maintained by LexisNexis Business Data Group.

How is the information compiled?

Highly skilled teams create and maintain proprietary business content. These teams use a mix of human interaction and technology platforms to ensure end-users receive accurate, complete and timely data.

Corporate Affiliations data is compiled and updated from information supplied by the listed companies themselves, as well as from research gathered from business publications and annual reports. Each company is contacted directly for information verification by our research teams. These teams are located in New Providence, New Jersey (our headquarters) with strategic partners located in Chennai and Mumbai India.

Parent and family member company records may include all or some the of the following data:

How often is the information updated?

Our Content Operations team works on updating the Corporate Affiliations database throughout the year. The database is refreshed on the Internet twice a week.

What are the criteria for public companies?

The Corporate Affiliations public companies database contains listings for most major publicly traded companies with U.S.- located headquarters traded on one of the three major U.S. exchanges. 100% coverage of companies listed on NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX exchanges are included as are significant companies traded on smaller U.S. exchanges. Investment funds or companies with letter series stocks are not listed in the database. Companies listed generally have revenues in excess of $10 million, employee totals in excess of 300 persons, or substantial assets/net worth.

Subsidiaries for these parent companies are included, whether or not they are located in the United States. Also included are outside service firms attached to the parent companies. These are firms that perform specialized services such as accounting, legal, pension management etc.

Presently, there are approximately 6,000 U.S. public companies and 40,000 subsidiaries.

What are the criteria for private companies?

Corporate Affiliations lists privately held companies with U.S.-located headquarters or holding companies. Generally, U.S. based private companies must demonstrate revenue in excess of 10 million, 300 employees or substantial assets to be included in the database.

Subsidiaries for these parent companies are included. Also included are outside service firms attached to the parent companies. These are firms that perform specialized services such as accounting, legal, or pension management, etc.

Approximately 50,000 U.S. private parent companies with 25,000 subsidiaries included.

What are the criteria for international companies?

When an ultimate parent company is located outside the United States, it is included in the international database. Included are the parent companies and their subsidiaries, no matter where the subsidiaries are located. International companies listed generally have revenues in excess of 50 million (U.S.), employee totals in excess of 300 persons, or substantial assets/net worth.

There are approximately 11,000 international parents with nearly 60,000 related subsidiaries included in the international database.


What are the different levels of reportage?

Ultimate Parent The very top company listed in a company hierarchy and the ultimate controlling company within a corporate structure.  
Parent The top tier within an organization but may not be the "ultimate parent." It should have other companies reporting to it, and would itself report to another legal entity. In many cases the term, "parent" and "ultimate parent" are used synonymously. Corporate Affiliations commonly refers to the "ultimate parent" as the parent.  
Subsidiary Separate corporate legal entity owned by the company at 50.1% or more.  
Joint Venture A business in which two or more companies share responsibility and ownership.  
Affiliate A separate legal entity in which there is an ownership interest by the parent company of less than 50%.  
Division An internal unit of a company, not incorporated or a separate legal entity. Usually tends to have many employees.  
Branch An internal unit of a company, not incorporated or a separate legal entity. Usually tends to have a small number of employees.  
Unit Same definition as division.  
Factory Same definition as division.  
Plant Same definition as division.
